Uganda agreed to accept migrants who do not meet the conditions for residence in the United Statesthe representative of the local Foreign Affairs said on Thursday. This is the next step of US President Donald Trump’s administration as part of the effort to deport unwanted immigrants to third countries, TASR reports according to the AFP report.

According to the United Nations (UN) Uganda, the largest population of refugees in Africa – 1.7 million. The announced agreement with Washington has become another East African country to receive US migrantsand joined Rwanda and South Sudan.

“The agreement concerns nationals of third countries which may not be granted asylum in the United States, but who are reluctant or concerned about returning to their countries of origin,” He said in a statement on the X platform, the permanent secretary of the Ugandan Foreign Ministry Vincent Bagiire.

He added that this is a “temporary measure” and persons with a criminal record and minor persons will not be adopted. Bagiire also announced that the country would prefer to “be resettled to Uganda from African countries”. “Both parties work on detailed conditions for the implementation of the agreement,” added.
