Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp resigned on Friday after the government could not agree on Friday to impose sanctions against Israel. Informed about the Dutch news agency ANP, writes TASR according to the AFP report.
“I see that I cannot enforce other meaningful measures to increase pressure on Israel,” the head of Dutch diplomacy explained. Veldkamp claims that the steps he suggested, have repeatedly encountered resistance in government. “I feel limited in setting up a course that I consider as necessary as the Minister of Foreign Affairs,” he said.
In July, Veldkamp banned the country with two extreme right -wing Israeli Minister Becalel Smotrič and Itamar Ben Gvir. In a letter addressed to the Dutch deputies, he then stated that this step towards Israeli finance ministers and national security was related to the fact that they repeatedly encouraged the settlers’ violence against the Palestinian population. He stated that it was also for their defense of the expansion of Israeli settlements on the occupied West Bank of Jordan, as well as calls for ethnic purges in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar responded by saying that the Netherlands decided “Exchanging your long -term friendship with Israel for open hostility”. The Netherlands joined the recent two statements in which the signatory states invited to stop the famine in the Gaza Strip and They also condemned Israel’s plans to build a Jewish settlement on the occupied West Bank of Jordan.
