Senator Cleitinho Azevedo (Republicans-MG) appears in the first place in the dispute for the government of Minas Gerais in the election of 2026. According to a genius survey/Quaest released on Friday, 22, he has 28% of voting intentions.
The former mayor of Belo Horizonte Alexandre Kalil (without party) is second placed, with 16%. Senator Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD) then emerges with 9%, tied in the margin of error with Deputy Governor Mateus Simões (Novo). Name supported by Governor Romeu Zema (Novo), Simões has 4%.
Undecided are 17% and white, null and who will not vote total 26%.

Quaest interviewed 1,482 people 16 years or older in Minas Gerais between August 13 and 17. The margin of error is three percentage points and the confidence level is 95%.
Zema’s approval falls
Quaest also asked respondents their opinion about the Zema government. In his second term, the miner launched the pre-candidacy for president on August 16 and tries to get Simões as his successor to the state government.
Zema is approved for 55%. The index has been the worst since April last year and represents a fall of seven percentage points compared to the last survey. In the previous round, held in February, the approval was 62%.

The disapproval of the chief executive rose from 30% to 35%. Those who did not know or did not answer are 10%.
The miners are divided if Zema deserves to make the successor: 48% answered that not 46% yes. Another 6% did not know or did not respond.
