Moldovan vocational schools are preparing young people for sustainable careers in the field of renewable energies

The results of the project “Competences for the green transition and sustainable development of Moldova” were presented at the official visit of the Meinl-Reisinger Beatea, Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria.

Implemented by the International Labor Organization (ILO) and financed by Austrian Development Agency (ADA) with funds of Austrian development and Liechtenstein Development Service (LED), the project aims to modernize technical vocational education and the preparation of specialists for the green economy,

A major result of the project is the fact that, starting with the year of studies 2025-2026, six institutions of technical professional education in the country will launch three new specialties in the field of renewable energy. Thus, young people and young people from Moldova will be able to obtain the qualification of technician/technician for energy production installations from renewable sources, electrician/electrician in construction, specialized in installing solar photovoltaic systems, and installer/installer for low geothermal systems and heat pumps. In parallel, a micro-qualification in education for sustainable development was introduced, and over 60 curriculum and learning resources have been updated. It should be mentioned that the component related to the development of the normative framework for the new study programs is carried out in partnership with the public association “Education for development” (AED).

These changes are not limited to study programs. Six educational institutions will be modernized with equipment for laboratories, teachers and managerials from over 48 professional institutions (but also for representatives of the business environment, development partners, government representatives, social partners) have benefited over 450 hours of training in fields such as innovative, eco-management and egality. Five institutions have developed and implemented action plans for greening. Also, in six regions of the country, within 10 institutions of technical professional education are in the process of eleven eco-impact projects, which include systems for collecting rainwater, recycling centers, eco-clubs, initiatives to reduce plastic and green social enterprises. In total, over 800 students and teachers have been involved in these activities, and more than 60 girls will discover the opportunities in green industries through bootcampuri and inspirational meetings.

Training and modernization efforts have been accompanied by a broad process of dialogue and awareness. Over 250 actors from various sectors participated in the national dialogues “Green and fair transition”, and sensitization campaigns have reached more than one million people, including 500 girls and women and over 320 schools across the country.
