Niger’s armed forces have reported that they have “eliminated” Ibrahim Mahamadou, leader of the terrorist group Boko Haram cattached as ‘Bakoura’ within the framework of a “precise” operation on the island of Shilawa, in the Lake Chad basin.
The operation in question took place last Friday and was carried out with “success”, as the Army has now explained in a statement in which it has assured that the “terrorist” in question has been “neutralized” together with other group members.
To do this, the military made several attacks with the “maximum precision” on positions of the terrorist group in the basin, which is located on the border between Niger, Nigeria, Chad and Cameroon. From these positions, the army has indicated, Boko Haram perpetrated attacks against the countries of the area.
According to information from the Armed Forces, Mahamadou was about 40 years old and was originally from Nigeria. The militia had joined Boko Haram thirteen years ago and, later, he had become one of his leaders after the death of Aboubacar Shekau in 2021.
