Pandas twins celebrate first birthday in the Berlin Zoo Garden

The only giant panda offspring currently in Germany, Leni and Lotti, completed the first year of life this week. To celebrate, they received ice cream balls made with carrot and beet juice prepared by the Berlin Zoo keepers.

The Berlin Zoo celebrated this week the first anniversary of the Leni and Lotti Pandas twins, the only giant panda panda currently in Germany.

The two sisters were born on August 21, 2024, with only 150 grams each, and By the end of a year they already exceed 21 pounds. To mark the date, the keepers prepared a special surprise: Ice balls made with carrot and beets juice.

Leni and Lotti live with the parents, Meng Meng and Jiao Qing. Are the second offspring to be born in the country, After the older brothers Pit and Paule, born in 2019 and returned to China in 2023within the scope of the International Program for the Preservation of the Species.

Beyond bamboo, which constitutes most of its diet, The twins continue to receive milk supplement given by the keepers. This help is fundamental, since in nature, when twins are born, Panda females tend to take care of only one of the offspring. Therefore, human accompaniment is essential to ensure the survival of both.

With less than 2,000 individuals in the natural habitat in China, The giant panda is classified as species “threatened”. Leni and Lotti’s birth and healthy development is therefore seen as a victory.
