The mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes (PSD), appears as a favorite in the dispute by the State Government in 2026, according to a genius/Quaest poll released on Friday, 22. Paes has 35% of voting intentions, followed by state deputy Rodrigo Bacellar (PL), with 9%.
The survey also tested the name of the former mayor of Duque de Caxias Washington Reis (MDB), who recorded 5%. Councilwoman Monica Benicio (PSOL) and businessman Italo Marsili (Novo) marked 4% and 2%, respectively.

Among respondents, 15% said they were undecided and 30% said they intend to annul the vote. The survey listened to 1,400 voters from August 13 to 17. The margin of error is two percentage points, with 95% confidence level.

When asked if the current governor Claudio Castro (PL) should elect a successor, 57% answered no, against 34% who said they supported a candidate appointed by him.
