A well -kept, healthy and dense hedge, which provides privacy and suppresses street noise, is the dream of many Poles. Few people know how to meet them, because the secret to the good condition of the bushes is not only in their regular watering or fertilization.

The most important is another treatment, namely summer cutting of bushes. Unfortunately, few beginner gardeners have knowledge about how to do them correctly to help, and not harm plants even more.

The most important procedure in the summer care of the hedge is its pruning. Thanks to it, he will thicken, take on a beautiful shape, he will be healthy and well -shapedbut only if you perform it systematically and in a correct way.

You must remember that cutting a hedge in the summer is recommended until the end of August, on a cheerful, rainless day. Later, this can do more damage than the benefits, because the shoots will not be completely wooden before the arrival of frosts, so the plant can be weakened.

It is best to cut the bushes in the summer that develop on last year’s shoots and have already faded. It is recommended to perform this procedure in the case of, among others: beeches, boxwood, thuja, common ligustrists and common hornbeards, as well as barberry or glossy irgs.

By cutting a hedge, shorten the young shoots 1/3 of the length (no more so as not to weaken them and not inhibit growth). Try to give plants a beautiful shape. It would be ideal if you were able to form in a shape that they are wider at the base and narrower at the top (trapezium/ cone with a cut vertex). It is not only a matter of aesthetics, and above all the health of the bushes, to which the lower parties will reach more sunlight.

After summer cutting of the bushes, it will be useful to nourish the bush with products abundant in phosphorus and potassium. These additionally strengthen the root system and support plant resistance. Of course, do not forget to water and mulch your hedge with bark, which will also limit the development of weeds under it.
