A 78 -year -old woman in France faces an unexpected situation after seeing her home occupied by a family. Despite the presence of Okupas, it continues to pay bills associated with the property, using only its monthly pension less than a thousand euros.
The case involves an apartment in Nantes, inherited from his father in 1998, which was leased as a way to complement the income. This lease allowed him to bear expenses, but the situation changed when the health of the elderly woman worsened and the property was temporarily empty.
Unexpected discovery
It was through a phone call that the woman became aware of the occupation, reveals the Spanish newspaper News Work. The condominium administrator warned the family of a water escape, but it was quickly confirmed that the apartment, protected by digital code, was busy without permission.
According to declarations of her daughter to local press, the discovery was a shock. What would be a lease pause period eventually turned into a prolonged legal process.
Prolonged judicial process
The court acknowledged that the occupying family was considered vulnerable. Among the arguments presented, we highlight the presence of two young children and the absence of hosting alternatives.
In practice, this classification led to the suspension of eviction, the same source refers. The decision prevented the elderly from recovering the property, even after 18 months since the beginning of the process.
The financial pressure
While the situation drags on, the owner continues to assume housing expenses. Responsibilities include condominium quotas and water invoices associated with the consumption of current occupants.
The daughter regrets that, in addition to losing the income of about a thousand monthly euros of the lease, the mother still has to pay bills from a house she can’t use. The impact on its already reduced pension has been significant.
Public Debate in Nantes
The case generated political and social discussion in the city. Associations expressed support for occupants, while some local officials point out flaws in the authorities’ performance, explains O.
Nantes’ municipality said it intends to look for solutions for both parties. The City Hall studies new administrative measures that can allow the eviction accompanied by a housing alternative for the family.
Reality, however, remains unchanged for the elderly. At 78 years old and a minimum pension, he is still deprived of his only heritage, unable to recover the house and forced to bear the costs.
