(Reuters) – United States President Donald Trump will appoint Joe Gebbia, co -founder of Airbnb, to lead a team in charge of reformulating government digital services, according to two authorities familiar with the matter, as part of their goal of transforming federal agencies in the name of efficiency.
Trump has signed a decree that creates the National Design Studio to improve the “usability and aesthetics” of federal digital services. Trump appointed Gebbia as design director. He will report to White House team chief, Susie Wiles.
Since taking office, Trump has reshaped the federal agencies. Gebbia, who joined the government this year, will help lead the next phase of this effort as a design director.

Trump’s billionaire and former counselor Elon Musk led the initial project to reshape the government in the name of efficiency, called Doge. The initiative involved cutting jobs, closing departments and recovering funding to achieve Trump’s political goals.
In 2021, former US President Joe Biden set a similar goal to make government websites easier to use. The Trump government has interrupted some projects to achieve this, including the free IRS tool to declare taxes directly at the agency. The former IRS doctor Billy Long said in July that the agency would eliminate this program. Long left the agency in August.
Trump’s national design studio will be closed in three years, according to the decree. The studio will advise agencies on how to reduce duplicate design costs and use standardized design on websites where people interact with the government, according to the decree.
