A 77-year-old Frenchman and her son with Down syndrome, 42, were abandoned by a family member on, on Monday (18).
Her youngest, the brother of the man with Down, boarded a Qatar Airways flight, bound for France, still on the second. Since then, the elderly and the neurodivergent son remained at the airport until the afternoon of Friday (22/8).
Both were referred to the Guarulhos General Hospital (HGG), after the Metropolis question AEA about the situation of mother and child.
The woman, as determined by the report, had severe thrombosis in her left leg and, the man with Down, severely dirty for the absence of personal hygiene.

Guarulhos City Hall said in a statement (Read further below), in the late afternoon of Friday, being aware of the situation of the elderly and her son since the beginning of the week. The municipal government stated that because the foreigner “refuses to receive welcome” faced “many difficulties.”
What the French says
O Metropolis obtained a record exclusively (Watch below) in which the elderly explains its situation, when it was at terminal 3 of the airport, on Thursday (21/8).
With her leg affected by thrombosis, next to backpacks and bags, she reported, in English, that, before coming to Brazil, was in Bolivia.
The son who later left her at the airport lived in the neighboring country of Brazil and, with him, the French and the man with Down spent a season.
When she arrived in Guarulhos on Monday (18/8), she intended to board a flight to Moscow, Russia, where she said she would like to “go to die.”
Her and her son with neurodivergency, however, was prevented by the crew of the flight – because the elderly woman shows unable to travel alone with her son.
Hotel and Consulate
Prevented from boarding to Russia, the French were staying in a hotel, depending on their own airport for two nights. The daily rates were funded by the airline.
“Then they wanted me to pay the stay, so we left the hotel and now we are at the beginning of the second night,” said the elderly woman, as recorded in video.
Since Wednesday (20/8), she and her son, for lack of choice and protection, spent two nights sleeping at banks, at terminal 3. They both fed thanks to the help of passengers and staff, sensitized by their condition.
“I can go wherever I want. I have money to go […] I think we paid more than $ 8,000 and we can not board. We are waiting here [Guarulhos] For a week ”.
Consular doctor
The report had access to an opinion, made by the Social Affairs sector of the Consulate General of France in São Paulo. In the document, it is stated that Qatar Airways refused the boarding of passengers “due to the mental health” of the elderly and “the absence of a companion”.
It was recommended for the French to return to Bolivia, where the son who abandoned her lived.
He was sought by the consulate, which he said he would move to France, adding “having no time or financial resources to take care of his mother.”
A doctor linked to the consulate of France evaluated her abandoned mother and son, stating that they could not travel alone.
“It was categorical: the health status of travelers does not allow them to travel alone to Russia. He recommends that they are welcomed by Brazilian social services, although it is necessary to find a solution that avoids the separation of mother and child, due to the disability of the latter,” says the document.
O Metropolis He learned with employees, confidential, that the social services of the Guarulhos City Hall were sought to help the French, which would have been refused.
At the airport there is a Humanized Post of the City Hall, of which no employee has moved to evaluate the situation of abandoned mother and son, according to the complaints. Both were taken to the post, only this Friday, by airport employees.

Guarulhos City Hall stated that it was notified by the Fast Sleep hotel, which is at the airport, about the possible abandonment situation of the elderly and the man with Down.
In a note, told the Metropolis That Emirates, the airline responsible for the family transportation, cost two days of lodging, after which “no longer committed to continuing to continue sheltering them”, emphasizing the French’s health problems.

The concessionaire that manages Guarulhos Airport said that as soon as it was notified of the situation of abandoned mother and child, “it called on the competent public agencies.”
