The accident of a tourist bus on a Pembroke road, north of the state of New York, in which it overturned when it returned from one has left five dead and half a hundred injured this Friday. None of the mortal victims are a minor, although initially a child had died. Many of the injured were trapped in the remains of a vehicle, according to the State Police.
Personnel from several public agencies and helicopters of several nearby counties were mobilized to the New York State Thruway highway where the accident occurred. Some of the victims, including two minors, have been taken by helicopter to nearby hospitals. Passengers are of Indian, Chinese and Filipino origin.
The preliminary police report reveals that the bus driver lost control, entered the median and ended up rolling to end up in the 90s interstate gutter – a highway that runs through the country from coast to coast – about 48 kilometers (30 miles) of buffalo.
There was no clash with another vehicle, but the police explain that the high number of injured and deceased is due to the fact that most passengers did not carry a seat belt and were fired from their seats. The reason that made the driver, which is one of the survivors, lost control of the bus is unknown.
The Police have alerted the public through their account in X that all the lanes of the highway in that area were closed, so extensive delays are expected. “The emergency personnel are in the place and additional ambulances and medical support have been requested,” police said.
An official announcement has not been made with the condition of the injured, but the firefighters have had to take and rescue passengers, according to an X message from the Fire Department of the County of Genesee, one of those who responded to the emergency.
The Democratic Governor of the State of New York, Kathy Hochul, was informed of the accident and has indicated that her team is closely coordinating with the state police and local officials to rescue and provide assistance to all those involved.
