H&M Inauguration in Brazil
4 thousand stores around the world
The brand’s story began in 1947, when Swedish entrepreneur Erling Person opened a women’s clothing store in Västerås, Sweden. The establishment was named after Hennes, which means “That” in Swedish (“Hers”).
The current name, H&M, is an acronym for H&M (Hennes & Mauritz), adopted in 1968 when the company expanded its line to include men’s and children’s clothing. The brand’s international expansion began in the 1970s, with Norway as the first country to receive a store outside Sweden, followed by Denmark, the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
Currently, H&M has 4,000 points of sale and 140,000 employees worldwide. The network competes in Brazil with other retailers already established in the country, such as Zara, Renner and Riachuelo.
