Venezuela vice president Delcy Rodríguez called on Saturday (23) the population to enroll in the Bolivarian militia in response to what she called “military threats” from the United States. The mobilization, announced by President Nicolás Maduro, takes place this weekend in squares and barracks in the country, according to the state station Telesur.
“President Nicolás Maduro summons us to national enlistment and calls us to ranks to all those who feel Venezuela in its deepest essence,” Rodríguez wrote on his channel on Telegram. “The insolent advance of the US dare to threaten our homeland. Our response as a united people will be firm, guided by high national conscience and the pride of our historical dignity.”

The leader concluded by asking for massive participation in the call: “This Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 August we will all enlist by Venezuela, the peace and future of our children.”
The call takes place days after Donald Trump’s government expanded the US military presence in the Caribbean. The US sent one, including 2,200 Naval Marines, which is expected to arrive on the Venezuela coast on Sunday (24). The fleet is made up of USS San Antonio, USS Iowa Jima and USS Fort Lauderdale, specializing in amphibious war operations.
The mission is part of a strategy that, according to the Trump government, aimed at combating Latin American drug cartels classified as “narcoterrorist organizations”, including the Sinaloa cartel and the Venezuelan group Tren de Aragua.

At the same time, Washington raised to $ 50 million the reward for information leading to the capture of Maduro, whom he accuses of leading a narcoterrorist cartel. The Venezuelan President rejects the accusations and denounces a “campaign of armed and psychological aggression” against his government.
Peace zone
Rodríguez and Maduro also evoked the declaration of Latin America and the Caribbean as a peace zone, approved in 2014 by Celac in Havana. The document compromises countries in the region to reject the use of force and respect the sovereignty and self -determination of peoples.
