Celosia (Celosia) is an annual plant from the charged family. It comes from tropical regions of South America, Africa and Asiawhich immediately reveals her appearance: colorful, brave and completely unlike “our” Polish flowers. We most often meet it in two forms:
- Combined Celosia – its inflorescences are arranged in wavy fans reminiscent of cockerels, coral reefs or velvet era hats.
- Pierzasta’s cell – it looks like colorful candle flames or small plumes.
Added to this pointed varieties, more slender, and a whole range of colors: from yellow and orange, through intense red and fuchsia, to deep purple.
Anyone who plants the cells once knows that this is not “another plant for a pot”. Arouses admiration and causes joy due to:
- Colors that do not fade – its intense colors persist throughout the summer and autumn. Even when other flowers begin to waste, the cell still stands rigidly and radiates,
- Exotic character – it looks like she was escaping from the tropical botanical garden. The neighbors will definitely ask what a “cosmic plant”,
- flowering length – from June/July to the first frost,
- Universality – it can be planted in the garden, in pots, and even cut and dried into dry bouquets.
In short: they are elegant and moody, but Celosia is pure joy and a colorful spectacle.
- Celosia Cristata – a classic cockerel. Her inflorescences look like plush fans. Perfect for pots, because it works decorative even individually.
- Celosia Plumosa – more “fluffy”, its flowers resemble flames. It looks beautiful in a group, e.g. in several colors next to each other.
- Celosia spicata – less common, with slender, spiked inflorescences. It blends well with decorative grasses.
Everyone has something special in it – the choice depends on whether you want to have in the pot A plant -shaped plant or one that looks like a burning fire.
Despite the tropical appearance of Celosia, it is not difficult to grow. I only need a few conditions:
- Position – loves the sun. The more light, the more saturated colors. in the shade it will be paler and less lush,
- Soil – permeable, fertile, slightly acidic or indifferent. She hates standing water, so a heavy, clay ground is her enemy,
- Watering – regular, but without exaggeration. It is better to water more often in small portions than to pour it once a week,
- Fertilization – repays for a little multi -component fertilizer every 2-3 weeks.
It is worth remembering that Celosia is a thermophilic plant – only when the risk of frost is over. Frozen seedlings have no chance.
On balconies and terraces, Celosia is a sensation. Just a few to create your own tropical oasis. Here are some tips:
- Choosing a pot – better larger than smaller, because Celosia likes stable conditions and does not like drying,
- substrate – flower soil mixed with sand or perlite for better permeability,
- watering – the Earth dries faster on the balcony, so humidity control is crucial,
- Pruning – it is not necessary, but removing faded inflorescences extends flowering.
If you have balcony from the south It is on him that Celosia will feel the best. If from the north, you need to know that the lack of light will make it collide rather pastel, not fire.
This year I put a comb on the roosters. Not because I have ceased to please, but because the garden and balcony deserve some exotic. Celosia is a plant that not only decorated, but also improves the mood. When you look at her fiery plumes, it’s hard to think about autumn gray – because suddenly you have a piece of tropics just outside the window.
