This drink will save you from kidney stones: important tips

Regular use is one of the simplest and most effective means to reduce the risk of kidney stones. This simple drink helps maintain a normal amount of urine and removes excess salts and minerals that can turn into stones. Daily consumption of water helps prevent these painful and dangerous health problems.

How much water does you need to drink a day to protect yourself from kidney stones?

According to Mykhail Tsyurak, a family doctor, most people do not even realize that ordinary drinking water is the main protection for the formation of kidney stones. When you do not drink enough water, the urine becomes concentrated, and salt and minerals begin to join hard crystals. This also creates stones that can cause severe pain, blood in the urine and even need surgery.

To avoid this problem, your doctor recommends drinking 1.5-2 liters of clean water a day. It is important to choose quality drinking water without unnecessary impurities to avoid potential harmful substances.

What should the urine be like?

An important indicator of consuming enough water is the color of urine. If the urine is light yellow, it means that your body gets the right amount of fluid and salt is removed without problems.

What drinks can promote the formation of stones?

  • Sweet carbonated drinks
Especially those with high fructose levels (corn syrup) and phosphates. These are Cola, energy drinks and sweetened lemonade species. Phosphates in Cola drinks can promote the formation of calcium phosphate stones in the kidneys.
  • Excess coffee and tea
Medium amounts of coffee can even reduce the risk of kidney stones, but large portions of black tea, rich in oxalates, can contribute to the formation of calcium oxalate stones. Stones can form if you drink strong tea and little water.
  • Alcohol (especially beer)
Alcohol can cause dehydration and increase uric acid levels, which promotes the formation of stones in the kidneys.

How to protect the kidneys?

The most important remedy to prevent kidney stones is regular water consumption. If you follow the recommendations and consume enough water, the risk of kidney stones will decrease. Also, avoid sweet carbonated drinks, alcohol and excessive consumption of coffee and tea.
