The threat of expulsion from one of the historical paintings of intensified the process in progress by the president of the subtitle, to purge the “wing centron” and crystallize the dominion of pockets, and led him to have the largest bench in.
One of the main exponents of the centri – political group refounded in 2014 by and of highly physiological profile – Valdemar is no longer the same. “Valdemar has changed the chip a long time ago, I have not seen anyone else conservative and right than him. He has our full support,” says the leader of the House, (RJ).
The goal, says Sostenes, is to arrive in the election year of 2026 with the center wing of practically outside the party and with the almost 100% ideological PL, as the largest conservative and right -wing subtitle in the country.
The latest threat of expulsion falls on Deputy Antonio Carlos Rodrigues (PL-SP).
Although Valdemar published a note saying that Rodrigues had just been expelled after the statements, the parliamentarian still remains affiliated and was not notified of the internal representation. He said he will wait for this statement to define how he will position himself.
The deputy was Minister of Transport in Management () and Councilman in São Paulo for four terms, always by PL. Rodrigues’s case drew attention because he was one of Valdemar’s most loyal allies, having interimly occupied the presidency of the acronym while he was arrested, convicted of participation in the monthly seeps.
Sostenes argues to treat the case with dialogue, parsimony and broad right to defense. “I understand the situation of Antonio Carlos, who has never had another party, and that is that center plus center, who adheres to any government. With the process of transforming the PL in the largest right -wing party in Brazil, but I think he is presenting himself a divorce with his style to do politics,” he said.
The bench leader claims to expect a maturation of the two parts that live today in the PL, the center and the right, for a final hit.
“With the process of ideologization of the PL, the environment will not be attractive to these politicians who were more center. We elected 99 deputies in 2022, some 25 of which were from this PL more center. About 15 already left and I think in the window [de transferência partidária, no primeiro trimestre do ano que vem] The rest must leave. “
He states that there are about 30 other Bolsonarist deputies from parties such as União Brasil, PSD, PP and we can enter the subtitle, zeroing the losses. “In the 2026 election, the party goes to the polls with 98%, 99% in this profile of the large conservative and right -wing party.”
One of those who can also leave the acronym is Deputy Wellington Roberto (RN), who has been in the PL for over 20 years and led the party in the 2019 to 2021. In this role, he represented the bench in the plenary and the main negotiations of the Bolsonaro government.
He says he intends to leave the party until the end of the year, without even waiting for the party window, but still depends on regional seams to decide his destination. “Every change, when it is too fast, is worrying,” says the parliamentarian, who lost command of the Paraíba directory to former health minister Marcelo Queiroga.
Another deputy with several terms for the PL says, under anonymity, that he still evaluates whether he will continue in the caption to compete in the election. He points out that, with Bolsonaro’s arrest, it is unclear whether the right candidate will be from the PL or affiliated to another party, which may lead to the exit of the pockets.
The deputies elected in 2022 helped inflate the electoral and partisan funds of the PL, who arrived at the billion reais. The acronym went from 33 federal deputies elected in 2018 to 99 in 2022.
Since the beginning of the legislature, 10 have left the party for groups closer to the Lula government (PT): 5 went to the PP, 3 to Republicans, 1 to the MDB and 1 for the PSB – Junior Deputy Mano, who sought to approach the group of Ceará Governor, who is a petista, with the aim of clinging to a senate seat.
Deputy Robinson Faria (RN) had joined the PL for the connection of his son, former communications minister Fábio Faria, with Bolsonaro, but says he did not fit the legend. “My vote is more from center, and the PL had a agenda that I did not agree. He positioned himself against the tax reform, for example, and I voted in favor,” he says, today in PP.
The PL is one of the many offsprits of the Arena, the acronym that supported the military regime. The party reached some degree of notoriety in 1989, when Guilherme Afif Domingos disputed the Presidency of the Republic, even excited in a certain period, but was sixth.
In the Fernando Henrique Cardoso government, the PL lived moments of opposition, after Valdemar disagreeing with the then powerful communications minister, Sergio Motta. At the time with just over ten federal deputies, the party struggled to escape the Squad of the Symine.
It was in 2002 that the acronym gave its first big turn. In the presidential election of that year, mining businessman José Alencar fell in the arms of the PL after disagreeing with the MDB. Alencar was chosen to be Lula’s deputy, who won the election and became president of the Republic from 2003.
Since then, with ups and downs, the PL has been in the orbit of PT governments, especially commanding the transport area.
Valdemar fell in disgrace with the monthly, resigned from his term of deputy twice – in 2005, when the scandal burst, and in 2013, when he came out his arrest order – but even in jail it did not lose the influence on the acronym.
The party had a second moment of ascension in 2010, when the country and the PL, its acronym, reached 41 elected federal deputies.
It was his best mark until Bolsonaro’s arrival in 2021, who took him from the middle block to put him on the shelf of the largest subtitles in the country.
