Reportedly, the additional transformer and the restriction of operation were damaged. According to the press department, there were no injuries.

Ukraine’s drone attack was caused by a fire in a nuclear power plant in the Russian Kursk region. The additional transformer was damaged and also reduced operation, the power plant said on Sunday morning. According to Reuters report, TASR reports this.

“The air defense systems have shot down a combat drone belonging to the armed forces of Ukraine near the Kurska nuclear power plant,” the plant’s press department said in a statement on the Telegram platform. “In the intervention of the drone, it exploded, which led to damage to the additional transformer,” he said.

According to the press department, there were no injuries, but due to the explosion, the capacity of one of the power plants decreased to 50 percent. An unmanned aircraft was also caused by a fire that was extinguished in the meantime. The levels of radiation in the area and its surroundings did not exceed the usual values, the power plant added.

Ukraine did not immediately comment on the incident and Reuters could not verify this message independently. It is not yet clear in which part of the power plant has occurred a fire.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (MAAE) has repeatedly warned of the dangers of fighting around nuclear power plants after Russia launched an invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. The power plant is located near the Russian-Ukrainian border, west of Kursk.
