Tourist accommodation benefits grow 7.8% and guests 3.6%

Total income from tourist accommodation grew by 7.8% in the first half to 2,995.5 million euros, with guests increased by 3.6% and sleeping 2.4%, the National Statistics Institute (INE) released.

According to the statistics of tourist activity published by INE, until June tourist accommodation establishments recorded 14.9 million guests (+3.6%) and 36.4 million overnight (+2.4%), which gave rise to 2,995.5 million euros of total profit (resulting from all the activity of the hotel establishment,+7.8%) and 2,268.2 million euros for income for income for income Room (only referring to overnight, +8.0%).

Residents’ overnight stays increased by 6.0%, corresponding to 10.7 million, while non -residents grew by 1.0%, totaling 25.8 million.

Considering only the second quarter of the year, the total profit of tourist accommodation grew by 9.4%to 2,042 million euros, and those related to the room rose 9.8%to 1,569.4 million (in the previous quarter these indicators had grown 4.6%and 4.1%, respectively). According to the statistical institute, these results were influenced by the fact that the Easter holiday period took place this year in the second quarter, while in 2024 it was essentially concentrated in the first quarter.

From April to June, the tourist accommodation sector registered 9.2 million guests (+4.4%) and 23.0 million overnight (+4.2%), indicators that in the first quarter had registered variations of+2.4%and -0.4%, respectively.

External markets were dominant, representing 72.3% of total overnight, a total of 16.7 million (+2.9%). Still, its weight retreated 0.9 percentage points compared to the homologous quarter, which makes it the third consecutive quarter with a homologous weight decrease in external markets.

Already the residents of residents increased 7.6% to 6.4 million, which is the third consecutive quarter at which the rate of growth of overnights is higher in the domestic market than in non -residents.

In the second quarter, overnight stays grew in the three segments: +4.0% in hotel (81.2% of the total), +3.0% in local accommodation (weight of 14.9% in total), +13.1% in rural and housing tourism (3.9% quota).

Greater Lisbon was the region that presented, in terms of overnight, greater dependence on external markets (82.9%of the total), followed by Madeira (82.4%) and Algarve (81.4%).

On the contrary, in the Center and Alentejo, non -resident sleeping showed less expression in regional total (34.6% and 36.0%, respectively).

In the second quarter, the Algarve was the region that concentrated the most sleep (27.1% of the total), followed by Greater Lisbon (23.4% of the total) and the North (17.8%). Residents’ sleeping were more concentrated in the North (21.7% of the total) and non-residents occurred mainly in the Algarve (30.5% of the total).

The British market maintained the lead, accounting for 19.3% of the total non -resident porch, registering a 1.9% growth compared to the homologous quarter.

The German market, the second main issuing market (11.3%of the total), increased 2.1%, followed by the US market (10.4%), which grew 5.9%.

In the group of the top 10 emitting markets in the second quarter, the Spanish market recorded the highest growth (+9.2%). On the contrary, the Frenchman had the largest break (-9.3%).

From April to June, all regions registered growth in the porch, and the largest increases occurred in the North (+8.7%) and Alentejo (+8.1%), while Greater Lisbon registered the most modest growth (+0.9%).

In the set of tourist accommodation establishments, the average yield to available room (REVPAR) reached 80.9 euros in the second quarter, registering an increase of 7.3% (+2.8% in the previous quarter). The average yield by busy room (ADR) reached 127.5 euros ( +5.3%, after +2.8% in the previous quarter).

The highest recalcue value was recorded in Greater Lisbon (129.7 euros), followed by Madeira (105.7 euros), with the Lisbon Metropolitan Area highlighted with the highest value of ADR (165.3 euros), followed by Madeira (128.0 euros). Considering the generality of the means of accommodation (tourist accommodation establishments, camping and holiday colonies and youth hostels), 9.8 million guests and 24.8 million overnight in the second quarter were recorded ( +4.0% and + +4.2%, respectively).

Also according to the INE, the monthly gross remuneration per worker to the service (by workplace) in accommodation activities increased by 6.6% in the second quarter compared to the same period, being 1,370 euros, 372 euros below the total of the economy, in which the remuneration increased by 6.0%.
