More than two thousand people are away from home in São Lourenço do Sul (RS), this Saturday (23), after a stream overflowing. According to the city hall, it rained more than 200mm in a 24 -hour period – longer than expected for the entire month of August.

Also, the municipality reported that 17 people are in an emergency shelter open at dawn.

Municipal Civil Defense teams monitor the most affected areas and provide care to families. The city also reported that state civil defense is moving to the municipality to reinforce the work.

According to the Military Fire Department of RS (CBMRS), seven removals were performed due to the elevation of the stream level.

Since dawn, the Military Brigade and the Fire Department have been rescuing and supported by affected families.

The City Hall forecast is that the stream remains out of bed until Saturday night, gradually returning to the normal course only at dawn on Sunday (24). With this, the flooded points should start to empty slowly, but it is still possible that there are displaced until tomorrow.
