Ukrainian drones reached a nuclear power plant and an oil terminal from Russia at dawn on Sunday (24.2025) and caused fires at both facilities. There is no record of victims or radiation leakage, according to. At the Kursk nuclear plant, the flames were quickly controlled after a drone fall.
The attack on the nuclear plant resulted in the reduction in the energy production of the installation. The administration of the nuclear complex issued a statement in which it says that “Radiation in the industrial complex and around the area has not changed and corresponds to natural levels.”
The attacked nuclear plant is located near the Russian-Ucranian border, west of the city of Kursk, regional capital with approximately 440,000 inhabitants. The target oil terminal of the attack is located in the port of UST-Luga, near St. Petersburg, northwestern Russia.
In the port of UST-Luga, Russian defenses intercepted 10 drones. Russian Fire and MSE (Ministry of Emergency Ministry) teams worked to control the flames until the last update.
Zelensky asks for support from the Global South
On Saturday (23.ago.2025), the Ukrainian President argued that Global Southern countries should exercise pressure on Russia for a peace agreement.
“I reaffirmed my willingness to any meeting format with the leader of Russia. However, we see that Moscow is once again trying to prolong everything even more.”wrote Zelensky on the X (former Twitter) after the conversation with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
On the same day, Russia announced the capture of two villages in the Donetsk, Sredneye and Kleban-Bbyk region. On Friday (22.ago), Moscow had already informed the taking of 3 other villages in the same region, territory that Russia claims to have attached in September 2022.
The capture of Kleban-Bbyk represents an advance towards Kostiantynivka, a fortified city on the way to Kramatorsk, where there is an important Ukrainian logistics base.
