Contrary to the popular saying, August has been the most strategic month to undertake in Brazil. In recent years, the period called by many “crazy dog” or “disgust” has been a favorite to start a new business.
An unprecedented survey of Agilize Accounting, based on the map of federal government companies, showed that in the last 3 years August exceeded January in the number of companies open.

According to the survey, in 2021, the growth was 22% (from 94,910 to 112,031 companies open); 2022, from 24.5% (from 84,815 to 105,618); and in 2023, from 23.8% (from 85,247 to 105,518). In 2024, the volumes were practically the same.
The analysis also included the partial data of 2025, which registered 118,795 companies opened in January. July closed with 111,412. Given these numbers, this year August is expected to exceed at least 20% the month of January.

For Rafael Caribé, CEO of Agilize Accounting, the highest proximity of commercial dates such as Black Friday and Natal, as well as the climate of starting culturally associated with the period, may explain this trend. “What these percentages show is that there is a consistent movement of expansion in the second semester, and August presents itself as a turning point for many entrepreneurs. It is a moment that combines the impetus of the second semester with time to plan the next fiscal year,” he says.
