Zamiokulkas, known as Zanzibar’s gem, is one of the least demanding rooms. Yet he will also appreciate a little extra nutrition. For example, in the form of sugar fertilizer.

has gained popularity due to its undemanding and resistance. It also survives even longer periods of drought, tolerates shade and does not suffer from common diseases. Still You can help with a healthier look and faster growth, for example using natural fertilizers. One of the options that has recently enjoyed popular is the sugar solution. Although it is true that the plant creates sugar itself through photosynthesis and does not need other anymore, in certain cases a drop of sweetened water can actually help.

Do you know how to care for rooms in winter? Watch a video where you will find everything you need to know:

How does it work and when does sugar zamiokulkasu benefit?

Sugar can serve as a rapid energy source for soil microorganisms, which will then speed up the release of nutrients to. But this does not mean that you should “harmonize” plants regularly as tea. Use the sugar solution exclusively in the period of active growth, ie from April to September, a maximum of once a month. Prepare the solution really simply: add one tablespoon of white or cane sugar to the liter of standing water at room temperature and stir until it dissolves.

Before using sugar fertilizer, always first pour the plant slightly with clean water. The roots of zamiokulkas are sensitive to waterlogging and chemical shocks. So apply the sugar to the slightly damp soil. If you exaggerated it with a lot, you could damage the root system and summon molds or unwanted insects.

Although the sugar fertilizer may stimulate the plant for a short time, it does not replace the classic nutrition that contains nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and other necessary minerals. Therefore, it should only be used as a supplement, not as a main source of nutrients. And beware! Sugar combined with other homemade fertilizers, such as coffee grounds or banana peels, on the same day it can be too intense for Zamiokulkas.

When sugar is not enough

Sugar is not the only way to support Zamiokulkas. Extracts from banana peel (rich in phosphorus), coffee grounds (source of nitrogen and organic matter) or nettle infusion, which supports the formation of new shoots, work perfectly. But all these domestic fertilizers should be used sparingly, always once a month and never in combination.

Nemiokulkas never fertilize in winter, when the plant naturally slows down growth. Likewise, skip fertilization after transplanting: The plant first needs to get used to the new environment. If you are unsure whether to fertilize the plant, wait. One of the few ways to really damage Zamiokulkas is spilling and over -fertilization.

Yellow leaves, slow growth or sophisticated appearance often indicate that the plant is not satisfied. Before you reach fertilizer, check the lighting conditions, watering and the size of the pot. Only if everything is fine, can sugar watering or other home fertilizer be the right solution.

Zamiokulkas is so resistant to itself that it does not need excessive care. Rather the opposite. But with a little attention, the right timing and a dose of sugar you can help him to make it even more beautiful, shinier and healthier. Just remember: Sweet life yes, but in moderation.
