Sport plans to expand Retiro Island to 35,000 seats

The president of, Yuri Romão, is in Sao Paulo on Monday (25.ago.2025) to accompany the match against the Allianz Parque and meet with businessmen and investors. The Paulista Stadium is considered a model for the modernization project of Ilha do Retiro, in Recife (PE).

The club’s plan is to turn the arena into a sports and tourist recipe complex. Reform will follow the concept of retrofitModernization without alteration of the original structure, and will increase the capacity from 26,000 to 35,000 fans. The number of cabins will go from 144 to over 200.

The project has already been approved by the Recife City Hall. Among the planned works are:

  • Construction of a 32 -story business building with commercial rooms to fund part of the reform;
  • Donation of an area of ​​3,620 m² to the municipality to improve mobility in the surroundings;
  • Preservation of 70% of existing vegetation and maintenance of sapotizeiro listed on the ground.

Since 2023, Retiro Island has been undergoing interventions. Chairs were installed in part of the stadium, in a work of R $ 5.5 million, and the facial recognition system for fans access, in partnership with the company Imply. There are 53 input points in 10 gates.

According to Yuri Romão, the purpose of management is to ensure self -sustainability. “Recife is a tourist city. The modernization of the island can bring new recipes besides football”these.

The leader also pointed out that the priority will continue to be sports performance. “We will open new business opportunities, but football will continue as a flagship of management”, stated.
