Your messages continue to decipher. After all, where does so much alarm come from around an old Russian radio station?
The “hallucinated” by the radio who also like a hint of conspiracy theories of certainty that they already know the UVB-76which has been so fascinated for decades and scares the world.
After years in silence, the obscure short radio wave gained life Again, shortly after the conversation between US presidents Donald Trump, and Russia, Vladimir Putin, in the spring that passed.
In fact, this year, the radio station took on a very important new role: it became a communication channel for Kremlin himself, explains this Monday.
The station, transmitted at 4625 kHz, attracted the most curious after the cold war, largely thanks to its tinnitus, which is occasionally interrupted by a monotonous voice that reads (apparently meaningless) sequences, with letters, names and numbers of the Russian phonetic alphabet.
After a call between Trump and Putin, the UVB-76 broadcast a series of names followed by numbers and letters:
“Nzhti 01263 Boltka 4430 9529”
The meaning of this message is still deciphering today. And although the UVB-76 transmits at least since the 1970s, its purpose has also been deciphering.
While some argue that the station is a spy tool, others go further and say it is an alien communication base. Others guarantee: The station is probably part of the Russian military communications network.
Is there a reason for alarm?
Short wave radio, unlike the AM and FM we know, can go through great distances and is used by military and intelligence agencies.
During the Cold War, amateur radio operators from all over the globe were trying to intercepted coded broadcasts from KGB and CIA. Today, what was hobby has become a global community of enthusiasts who is dedicated to interpreting these signs.
There are several theories about UVB-76. Some suggest that radio merely tests atmospheric conditions; others imagine World’s end scenariosbased on a system programmed to launch nuclear missiles in case of a surprise attack on Russia.
A visit from journalists and urban explorers based on the station, north of Moscow, revealed the presence abandoned equipment and registration books, but nothing that suggested the dramatic narratives that are seen online.
But the monitoring of the mysterious Russian station remains on the internet. There are sites that metalogously catalog the transmissions of the season.
Alerts about military climbing? And the world came to hear
At the end of 2024 and this year, there was an increase in activity at UVB-76. On December 11, the station transmitted 24 messages in one daya record.
Although the messages were “normal” – letters, numbers or meaningless words – their frequency and timing surprised.
Russian state agency Ria-Novosti published its first article about the station, nicknamed it as a “end of the world” and connecting it to the system known as “Dead hand”an Soviet program of nuclear retaliation.
Other means, such as RT, began publishing transmissions and suggesting that UVB-76 sent coded alerts coincidents with important geopolitical eventsas calls of telephone or alerts of military climbing.
Experts emphasize that there is no proven dead-hand connection and that although the UVB-76 could be useful as a communication tool in crisis, it cannot trigger missiles or performing offensive functions.
The resurgence of UVB-76 as a symbol of Russia’s nuclear posture coincides with a nuclear signaling pattern. In recent years, Russia has increasingly used nuclear rhetoric to influence western perceptions and policies, especially in the context of conflict in Ukraine.
The international means noted the interest in the UVB-76. British tabloids and European agencies reported the station as a “end of the world.” Even Russian coverage contributed to mysticism, creating a cycle in which fear and fascination pull for each other.
