Kilmar Abrego García, 30, the Salvadoran immigrant whose erroneous deportation of the United States to his country of origin made him, has been arrested again this Monday by the Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE) when he went to an appointment in the immigration courts in Baltimore (Maryland state) on his case. His lawyer, Simon Sandoval-Moshenberg, has denounced that Abrego could be expelled again, this time to Costa Rica Oa Uganda.
The immigrant has submitted a request so that he is not deported to any country before having a complete judgment to defend his case and determine if the nation that would welcome him is willing to accept it.
Kilmar Abrego had a court order that prohibited him from being deported to El Salvador, but the US administration expelled his country of origin in March. A lawyer from the Department of Justice then acknowledged that. A judge then ordered the government to bring him back.
The Trump administration took months to comply with that judicial decision, claiming on the one hand that he could not claim the Salvadoran government the return of one of its citizens. On the other, which Abrego was a dangerous criminal: the Department of Justice first accused him of belonging to a criminal gang, after being an abuser and, finally, of people traffic.
Since his return in June, the immigrant had remained in a prison in Tennessee, for a crime of traffic of people. It is a position he denies. . Now, ICE has stopped him again after reaching the appointment.
His lawyer has indicated that his client has been threatened with deportation to Uganda, if he does not agree to declare himself guilty of the position of traffic of persons. If he declares himself guilty, he would be deported to Costa Rica, who has approved him as a refugee.
