During the OAB event, Minister states that the nation ‘must close the cycle in which it considered legitimate and acceptable to break constitutional legality because it did not like the electoral result’
The president of (STF), minister, said on Monday (25) that the trial of the former president and seven other defendants for the coup plot brings “some degree of tension” to the country. During an event in the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB), the minister stated that the result of the judgment for the conviction or acquittal of the defendants will be according to the evidence and will occur with due process and public sessions.
“We live this tense, inevitable moment of the judgments of the January 8 and the judgments of what, according to the complaint of the Attorney General, would have been an attempt to coup. It is evident that these episodes bring some degree of tension to the country,” he said. Barroso also made a retrospective of attempts to break constitutional legality throughout the history of and said it is necessary to “end a cycle.” “The judgment is imperative, because the country needs to end the cycle in which it considered legitimate and acceptable to break constitutional legality because it did not like the electoral result,” he added.
Judgment
Bolsonaro’s trial will be made by the first class of the Supreme, which is formed by the ministers Flávio Dino, Cristiano Zanin, Cármen Lúcia and Luiz Fux. The trial sessions are scheduled to take place between September 2 and 12. Defendants are responsible for crimes of armed criminal organization, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, damage qualified by violence and serious threat and deterioration of listed assets. In case of conviction, penalties may exceed 30 years in prison.

- Alexandre Ramagem-former director of the Brazilian Intelligence Agency (Abin);
- Almir Garnier-Former Navy Commander;

- Augusto Heleno-Former Minister of the Institutional Security Office;
- Paulo Sérgio Nogueira (General), former Minister of Defense;
- Walter Braga Netto-former minister of Bolsonaro and candidate for deputy on the 2022 plate;
- Mauro Cid (Lieutenant Colonel), former Jair Bolsonaro orders;
