Conmebol has announced that from the quarterfinals of Libertadores and South American the main referees will publicly announce decisions made after VAR reviews.
The measure was tested in the final of, in Maracanã, and will be continuously adopted in club tournaments.
During the matches, the referee will explain live the reason for each decision, both for the public in the stadiums and the fans who accompany the broadcasts. The initiative seeks to increase transparency and bring the fan closer to the arbitration process.
The procedure was approved by IFAB and FIFA, bodies responsible for the rules of football, and begins to be applied in the quarterfinals of the competitions, scheduled between September 17 and 26, 2025.
