Colonel Daniel Lames de Araújo, who performs the role of Deputy Defense and Aeronautics at the Brazilian Embassy in the US, sent last Monday (18) a letter to the American commercial representative, in which he asks to attend the hearing on investigation against Brazil that will take place next week.
Commercial investigation was opened by the US President, based on section 301 of the 1974 Commerce Law. It authorizes the US government, any foreign nation that implements practices seen as unjustified and penalizing US trade.
Araújo, who has been holding the post since August 2024, requested permission to attend the hearing marked by the United States Representative Office on September 3 in Washington.
In the document, he said he had no intention of testifying, but only to observe the discussions and be aware of possible impacts of the measures regarding the contractual interests of the Ministry of Defense.
