In the fight against alleged uncontrollable crime in Washington, the US President wants to introduce the death penalty for murder in this city. Trump also sent a national guard to the streets of the capital this month.
The US government will demand the death penalty for murder in Washington, President Donald Trump said on Tuesday. It is part of his fight against alleged uncontrollable crime in the US capital, reports TASR, according to the report of Reuters and AFP.
“If someone kills someone in the capital, in Washington, we will demand the death penalty,” Trump said in the White House. “It is a very strong preventive means and everyone who has heard it agrees,” the US President continued. “I don’t know if we are ready for it in this country, but we have it. It’s so – we don’t have a choice,” he added.
This month, Trump sent a national guard to Washington’s streets and ordered that the Federal Government to take control of the metropolitan police. Some Guard members started carrying firearms on Sunday in the US capital, the army confirmed. So far, they have been available in case of need in the armory.
Trump claims that the crime rate is two- or triple in Washington compared to other countries. On Sunday he threatened the deployment of the National Guard in other cities such as Baltimore, Chicago and New York.
