CAIRO (Reuters)-More Palestinian families left the city of Gaza on Tuesday, after a night of Israeli bombing around the city, while the Israelis began a day of protests across the country asking for the liberation of hostages and the end of the war in Gaza.

Residents said the air and Israeli tanks bombing continued throughout the night and at dawn on Tuesday in the suburbs of Sabra, Shejaia and Tuffah, in the east of the city of Gaza, as well as in the city of Jabalia, to the north, destroying roads and houses.

“We call this earthquakes, because they want to scare people to leave their homes,” said Ismail, 40, a resident of the city of Gaza.

The Israeli Armed Forces said that their forces are operating in the area to locate weapons and destroy tunnels used by militants. Despite widespread protests in the country and international conviction, Israel is preparing to launch a new offensive in the city of Gaza, as he describes as the last bastion of Hamas.

Israeli protesters blocked roads in Tel Aviv and other parts of the country, holding photos of hostages still kept in Gaza and asking for the end of the war. A planned demonstration in front of Israel’s defense headquarters is expected on Tuesday attract thousands of people.

“For 690 days, the government has been waging a war without a clear goal,” said Einav Zangauker, mother of the Israeli hostage Matan Zangauker, in a statement with other hostage families who launched the day of demonstration.

“How will the hostages, the living, and the dead be returned? Who will Gaza rule the next day? How are we going to rebuild our country?” She said.

The war began on October 7, 2023, when armed men led by Hamas invaded southern Israel, killing about 1,200 people, especially civilians, and doing 251 hostages.

Since then, Israel’s military offensive against Hamas has killed at least 62,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health, plunged the enclave into a humanitarian crisis and has internally moved its entire population.
