The Foreign Ministry of Israel announced on Monday (25) that “will” demean “the level of diplomatic relations with Brazil, after Itamaraty had not responded to the indication of a new Israeli ambassador.
In January, Israel appointed diplomat Gali Dagan to take over the embassy in Brasilia. In order for him to hold office, the host country must grant formal authorization, known as “agrarian”, a standard procedure in international relations.
Although Brazil did not officially refuse agrement, the request was under consideration without a definitive response, which, in the diplomatic context, is interpreted as a rejection.

Given this, Israel removed Dagan’s nomination and reported that he will not have another name to Itamaraty, stating that bilateral relations will be conducted at a lower diplomatic level.
“After Brazil, exceptionally, not responding to Ambassador Dagan’s request for agrement, Israel removed the nomination, and relations between countries now occur at a reduced diplomatic level,” the ministry said in a statement.
The information was released by The Times of Israel.

Celso Amorim, advisor to the presidency and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, commented that the Brazilian stance would be a retaliation for the treatment given to the Brazilian representative in Tel Aviv, who would have suffered a “public humiliation” in 2024.
Itamaraty chose not to comment on the case.
