After the first days after the implementation of tariffs tells Brazil by the president of the United States, Donald Trump, Jalles Machado () sees maintenance of international requests. The sugar and ethanol producer evaluates, in the short term, small reductions in the US orders, but recognizes potential competitiveness gains for other long -term producing countries.
“In the long run [as tarifas] They are bad because they will encourage other countries to increase their production, because they will be with greater competitiveness than Brazil, ”says Jalles Machado CFO, Rodrigo Penna to Infoomoney Interview. “But I do not believe it will be like this in the long run. There is not much rationality in having a 50% rate in this foreign trade status between Brazil and the USA. It can change everything with the election of 2026, for example.”

About 80% of Jalles Machado’s organic sugar sales are intended for the international market, of which 70% are represented by the United States. According to Penna, the operation has been little impacted so far precisely by dependence on the American market of the Brazilian product.
“They have no place to look for this organic sugar, they matter in the order of 300 thousand tons, half come from Brazil. What we have watched is that customers are keeping shopping. We had to reduce one little thing or another,” says Penna.
In a relevant fact disclosed to the market two weeks ago, Jalles announced that the estimated financial loss due to tariffs is between $ 20 million and $ 25 million. Recent purchases confirmations, however, signal that the impact is not so high.

In addition to the situation of tariffs, Penna also told Infoomoney interviews new investments in biomethane production. The company understands that it can use it both in its own operation, replacing fossil fuels, such as selling to companies in the region.

“The idea is to generate this synergy with our business and be able to sell biomethane in our region of Goiás,” he says. “As Goiás has no pipeline, industries that need to bring liquefied oil gas (LPG). Even to the state will bring a competitive gain.”
