Vox asks that deaths in León fires be investigated as reckless homicide
The Vox spokesman in the Courts of Castilla y León, David Hierro, has announced that his party has filed a complaint with a criminal court in León to investigate the circumstances in which the deaths of three people occurred during the extinction of fires, when observing possible crimes of imprudent homicide and against the rights of workers.
In a press conference convened in the regional Parliament, Hierro has stated that “the death of three people is serious enough to open an investigation to determine why they have occurred” and if both the Board and the central government have any responsibility, while it has ruled out requesting a commission of investigation on what happened, considering it ineffective.
It refers to the deaths of two volunteers in the Leonese municipality of Nogejas, one of them that the Board initially spoke as incorporated into the operation but subsequently separated, already another forest firefighter who lost his life when he fell through a embankment in complicudo, in the Leonese region of El Bierzo, all of them when they fought forest fires.
Specifically, Vox raises in his letter that the Court analyzes the role played by the “competent public positions in the anticipation, planning, prevention, immediate response and management of the Forest Fire Extinction campaign of 2025 in the province of León”. Add the complaint that these investigations are carried out on “those competent national and/or autonomous authorities, not only in the direction of the operation of fire prevention and extinction”, but also in the responsibilities derived from the media provision, in reference to the planning.
The Vox spokesman has affirmed that the administration has acted in a “negligent” way and that these deaths “could have been avoided.” (EFE)
