An entourage of Brazilian businessmen is preparing to travel to the United States next week, in an attempt to negotiate the reduction of imposed tariffs on Brazilian products. The group includes representatives of sectoral associations, state federations and large companies in Brazil.
Former WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo, who will conduct the negotiations in Washington, revealed in an interview with CNN 360° that the entourage will seek to establish dialogue with various organs of the US government, including the Treasury, Commerce and State Departments, as well as the American Commercial Representation (USTR). The group also plans meetings with senators and deputies, especially with leaders of relevant committees.
The presentation of the Brazilian entourage will be structured in three main pointswith emphasis on technical and legal arguments which demonstrate that the criteria for imposing the tariffs were not adequately met. In addition, the group intends to explore areas of unexplored convergence in the bilateral relationship between countries.
Azevêdo highlighted specific cases that deserve revision, such as the, significantly impacting business transactions. Other products are also targets of discussion as they have unique characteristics and do not compete directly with American products.
Parallel to negotiations with the United States, the. Azevêdo stressed that while opening new markets is a medium to long -term process, the current situation can create opportunities to explore commercial alternatives and even consider new free trade agreements.
