CAE request asks for explanations to the Minister of Finance and president of the Central Bank after banks lose $ 47 billion in a single day
The senator filed yesterday (22) an application in the Commission on Economic Affairs (CAE) requesting the presence of the Minister of Finance, and the president of the Central Bank, to provide clarification on the effects of application in Brazil. The request occurs after the decision of the STF minister, who prohibited the application of legal judgments and foreign laws that are not confirmed by international agreements or by the Brazilian judiciary. The measure generated insecurity in the financial market, leaving banks in doubt about following international sanctions or complying with the Supreme Court’s decision.
The impact was immediate: in just one day, the largest banks in the country lost about $ 47 billion in market value, one of the largest recent setbacks in the stock market. “The financial system cannot be paralyzed in the face of such legal insecurity. The government and the Central Bank must immediately clarify which measures will adopt to protect Brazil from this devastating impact,” said Izalci Lucas. The request will be analyzed in CAE, and the expectation is that those responsible will present an urgent action plan to stabilize the market and give peace to investors.
