Osmar Stabile won on Monday (25) the indirect election held by Corinthians and will be kept in the presidency of the club until December 2026.
At 71, the Vitalitius counselor had interimly inherited the chair in Parque São Jorge in May, after the removal of Augusto Melo, who was the first vice president. This is his second department in the board, as he was vice president of land sports during part of Alberto Dualib’s management (1993-2007).
The victory took place with 199 votes of the college formed by lifetime and triennial counselors – these elected for the term from 2024 to 2026. Roque Citadini received 50 votes and, thirdly, André Castro had 14. There was a blank vote. The election had 264 of the 299 Corinthians counselors.
To apply for the presidency of Parque São Jorge, it was necessary to be a lifetime counselor or to be in the second term on the board.
In addition to the president of the board, Leonardo Pantaleão was elected vice president of the Deliberative Council, with 119 votes. He automatically assumes the post of chairman of the Ethics Committee of the Deliberative Council. In second place was Peterson Ruan, with 75 votes and, thirdly, Rodrigo Bittar, with 64. There were 4 white votes and 2 null votes.
Elected to complete the mandate interrupted by the removal of Augusto Melo – dedicated by alleged irregularities in commissions of a sponsorship contract – Stabile will have challenges that require political skill, management capacity and long -term vision to deal with instability in Corinthians.
The largest of these is to rearrange the financial situation, marked by a debt of over R $ 2.5 billion. In April, the Deliberative Council failed the accounts of Melo’s first year of management, following opinions from the Fiscal Council and Cori (Guidance Council), both critical to the figures presented by the board.
The disapproval was one of the signs of loss of political support to the former president. Counselors remembered that the club came from three consecutive years from Superavit under Duilio Monteiro Alves, but returned to the deficit with Melo. The top hat, however, claimed to have inherited a debt of $ 191 million from its predecessor.
“I won’t take this account, this debt is not mine,” he said at the time.
In addition, Corinthians faces pending issues related to the financing of neo chemistry arena in Itaquera and processes in different spheres – CNRD (National Chamber of Dispute Resolution) of the CBF, FIFA and Labor Justice.
With the compromised cash, the club was punished with a transfer Ban, which prevents the registration of new players until the debt of US $ 6.1 million (R $ 33.4 million) with Santos Laguna, Mexico, referring to the hiring of Felix Torres.
Even if you can reach an agreement with the Mexicans, the club will not have a margin for large investments in reinforcements. In the current season, it is in the second half of the table in the Brazilian Championship and continues alive in the Brazilian Cup, in the quarterfinals of the knockout, a phase in which he will face Athletico Paranaense-the first game this Wednesday (27), at 21:30, in Curitiba.
In the political field, Stabile will need to sew alliances at Parque São Jorge to pacify the club, now divided into several groups. This support is fundamental to discuss, for example, the reform of the Statute, the target of internal and external criticism. In the last months of his management, Melo was no longer able to advance on this topic.
Its dismissal occurred after General Assembly, motivated by internal and Civil Police investigations that pointed to irregularities in the sponsorship agreement with the Vaidebet betting site. The suspect involves the payment of $ 25 million to an intermediate, supposedly façade company used to divert resources.
Melo denies the crimes that led him to lose his position. He and other leaders became defendants on charges of criminal association, money laundering and theft.
