At least 30 people lost their lives and several others have suffered injuries in the region of Jammia and Kashmir in the north of India due to a landslide that caused heavy rains. According to DPA, TASR writes about this from Wednesday’s reports of Indian media.

  • The landslide in Jammu and Kashmir killed at least 30 people.
  • The tragedy occurred on the pilgrimage road near the Hindu sanctuary.
  • Strong rains have disrupted traffic and causes floods and landslides.
  • The monsoon period in India lasts from June to September.
  • These rains have caused the death of more than 1,200 people since June.

The landslide occurred on Tuesday afternoon on the pilgrimage road – near the sought -after Hindu sanctuary. Since then, several bodies have been found, but rescue and search operations have continued. Strong precipitation in the area prevented the mentioned pilgrimage road and paralyzed road and rail transport.

Strong monsoon rains annually evoke lightning floods and landslides in the North India’s mountain states that have the result of deaths and considerable material damage.

Such floods last 14th August swept through another village in Jammia and Kashmir, where they claimed 65 victims of life and over 100 injured. A similar incident also occurred on August 5 in the village in the neighboring Indian state of Uttákhand, where so far only one body has found one while about 40 other people remain missing.

The period of monsoon rains in India traditionally lasts from June to the end of September. The rains are very beneficial for local agriculture, but at the same time they cause huge damage – material and human losses.

According to official data, more than 1,200 people have died this season – from 1 June – in India -related incidents. There are deaths that occurred due to landslides, as well as drowning, collapsing houses or other infrastructure, lightning or fallen trees. Most of these deaths were recorded in the region of Jammia and Kashmir or the neighboring state of Uttákhand.
