This Wednesday (27), Athletico-PR and Corinthians start the duel for the quarterfinals of the Brazilian Cup. At 9:30 pm (Brasília), the teams enter the field for the outset, at Arena da Baixada.
This will be the fourth eliminatory duel between the teams within. So far, the retrospective is 100% favorable to the São Jorge Parque team, with three alvinegras classifications in 1997, 2001 and 2009.
In all the qualifiers, it complicated in the first leg, but managed to reverse the scoring and advance in the duels back.
In 1997, after losing at Morumbis 2-1, Timão thrashed at the pine tree 6-2 and got the classification, entitled to Mirandinha’s hat-trick.
Four years later, in 2001, Corinthians was 0-0 at Pacaembu and returned from the Arena da Baixada with the classification thanks to an Ewerthon goal, which secured the 1-0 win.
In 2009, Corinthians lost in the first leg, 3-2. However, at Pacaembu, Ronaldo Phenomenon’s star shone, and shirt 9 scored two goals to ensure the classification.
