The election of Duarte Jr., by symbolic vote, was the result of an agreement built by the opposition support. The government initially intended to appoint the deputy (PT-RS), but it was, after losing command and CPMI rapporteur last week in one.
In the commission, Duarte Jr. occupies a vacancy that is from União Brasil. He was elected with a speech that his work will be technical and defended to leave “ideology aside”.
“We are not here to keep pet bandits. We are here to investigate, we are here to give the proper answer, give to those who hurt,” he said in the board. “It doesn’t matter if those who committed crimes are right or left; if you committed crimes, it is up to us to investigate and ensure punishment.”
The articulation for him to occupy the vacancy and be elected was part of the agreement so that Duarte Jr. is joined by União Brasil and disputes reelection as a federal deputy for the party next year.
According to people along with negotiations, the parliamentarian seeks a letter of consent of the PSB management, but there are some obstacles to which this happens.
One of them is the scenario itself in Maranhão, where Duarte Jr. is aligned with Governor Carlos Brandão (PSB), broken with the minister and former governor Flávio Dino, of the Supreme Court (Supreme Court).
Recently, the state board of the PSB, married to state deputy Othelino Neto (Solidarity), ally of Dino. This change would make it difficult to leave the party’s parliamentarian.
With this, even in União Brasil the most likely scenario is that the federal deputy has to wait for the party window of March next year to change his subtitles.
