Senator (-DF) said at a meeting on Wednesday (27) that she had recently surgery and will begin radiotherapy treatment on Monday (1).
“A month ago I was diagnosed with cancer, on July 18th. I did all the tests. In 18 days I managed to do biopsies, resonances, all exams, and in 18 days I was able to have surgery,” said Damares Alves. The senator’s staff said it was one.
“In five days I was here in the Senate working, after surgery. With pain, with a little pain, all the care, it was only difficult not to embrace colleagues during this period. But the early diagnosis was fundamental for me to be as I am.
The senator made the statements at a meeting of the temporary Senate subcommittee that discusses proposals on disease treatment and prevention. “I reported cancer matters a day before being diagnosed,” she said.
Later, while chairing a meeting of the Human Rights Commission, the senator ended the meeting saying that she was not feeling very well. “I’m already on my physical limit right now,” he said. He also told fellow senators about cancer.
