Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara gave details of how the attack on a Catholic school in the American city on Wednesday (27). Two children died and 17 people were injured in total.
Shortly before 8:30 am (local time), when students from several different grades were participating in the mass to mark the first week of school, a sniper dressed in black approached outside the place and opened fire.
“The one approached the side of the building and started firing a rifle through the church windows towards the children on the seats,” O’Hara told a press conference.
“He hit children and faithful who were inside the building.”
Two children, 8 and 10 years old, were killed and 17 – including 14 children – are injured, O’Hara said.
“This deliberate act of violence is just a sign of cruelty that is beyond understanding,” he said.
Hospitalized
Children 6 to 14 years old are being treated by injuries in a hospital in Minneapolis because of the attack.
Some pediatric patients are in critical condition, according to a medical center representative, who also reported that four people had to undergo surgery.
