From baking soda to the freezer: Discover the 'secrets' for shoes without stench

The stench in shoes is a universal problem, but it remains one of the most embarrassing of everyday life. Just a whole day running from side to side or a gym session for the odor to settle. The phenomenon, popularly known as ‘female’, has a simple explanation: it results from the combination of sweat and bacteria accumulated on the feet and shoes.

According to Lifestyle site, Women’s Health, the feet concentrate thousands of sweat glands and, when sweat is retained, the perfect environment for bacterial proliferation is created. Factors such as stress, hormonal changes or fungal infections, such as the so -called athlete’s foot, can aggravate the problem. The solution, however, does not only undergo quick deodorants.

Hygiene and prevention

The first measure is the most obvious: taking care of the feet. Wash daily with warm water and soap, dry well, especially between fingers, and wearing cotton socks or breathable fabrics makes all the difference.

According to the same source, regular exfoliation helps remove dead cells and prevent bacteria from accumulating.

But it is not enough to treat the skin. The type of shoe chosen also has a direct impact on the odor. Natural materials such as leather and fabrics that allow ventilation reduce internal moisture.

On the contrary, plastics and synthetic retain sweat, acting as a “warehouse” of odors. The magazine also writes that switching pairs of footwear is an effective strategy, allowing them to dry completely before they are used again.

Homemade tricks

Among the most traditional methods is baking soda. Sprinkled inside the shoes at night, neutralizes the odors, and it is only necessary to remove the excess in the morning. The publication reminds, however, that frequent use in leather shoes can dry out the material.

There are those who prefer alternative solutions: put sand for cats or wood shavings inside an old sock and leave it inside the shoe. These materials absorb both moisture and smell. Citrus peels are also pointed out as effective.

Another technique is the use of alcohol. Sprayed in a mixture with water, disinfect and dries the interior. In sports shoes, a passage through the washing machine solves the problem more radically.

Just remove the insoles and the atators and use a warm water program, then let it dry naturally.

The power of cold and steam

The freezer emerges as one of the most unusual but effective tricks. Put the shoes in a tightly closed plastic bag and leave them at night eliminates the bacteria responsible for the odor. The condition is simple: the shoes must be completely dry before going to the cold.

It also explains the same source that steam is another powerful ally. Used through its own apparatus, eliminates germs and prolongs the life of shoes.

Natural Solutions

Those who prefer aromatic options can bet on essential oils. A mixture of peppermint, eucalyptus or thyme with distilled water turns into a disinfectant and fragrant spray.

Already the bags of dry tea, placed inside, absorb moisture and leave a discreet aroma.

As with, solutions multiply and do not require large investments. From the freezer to the kitchen, through the cabinet of the aromatic herbs, the methods are within everyone. And everyone has the same goal: to return to shoes what they should never have lost, freshness.
