Income concentration rises in the south and falls into the other regions

South remains region with lower disparity in the report of the Brazilian Observatory of Inequalities

Income inequality decreased in Brazil in 2024 compared to 2023, according to the report, released on Wednesday (27.ago.2025). Read the full document (PDF – 2 MB).

The richest 1% of the population last year had a per capita family income 30.5 times higher than the poorest 50%. In 2023, the indicator was 32.9 times. The data of the report in 2024 was 31 times and was revised.

The south is the region with the highest income balance. But it is also the only one who had an increase in income concentration from one year to another.

The multiplier in the south was 23.3 in 2024. It had been 22.4 in 2023. The Northeast remained with the greatest imbalance. It was 33.6 and fell to 32. Here are the indicator in each region of the country.

Of the 43 indicators analyzed by the report, there was advance in 20, stability in 15 and worsening 3. There are 5 indicators with non -comparable data.

The Dieese (Intersindical Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies) was responsible for the study in the current edition.

Economist Clemente Ganz, Dieese’s technical director and one of the report’s coordinators, said that “overall look is that there is an improvementIn inequality. He said, however, that new public policies are needed to accelerate the reduction of imbalances.
