To watch the new television standard, you will need to purchase a DTV+ converter or a new DTV+ TV
The President (PT) and the Minister of Communications, Frederico de Siqueira Filho, this Wednesday (27.2025) the decree that regulates TV 3.0. The ministry wants to launch the first two experimental stations of the new generation of technology, also called DTV+, still in 2025, in São Paulo and Brasilia.
The goal is for the system to be available throughout Brazil. The new technology promises higher image and sound quality, interactivity with internet and segmented advertising, but will require compatible converters or televisions.
TV 3.0 is an updated version of SBTVD-T (Brazilian Terrestrial Television System). Mix open TV broadcast with internet features and, in practice, transforms television devices into smart TVs.
According to O, there are no plans to turn off the current digital television system (TV 2.0) when TV 3.0 goes into operation. The transition will be gradual.
“TV 3.0 is a priority for Brazilian broadcasting”, Frederico de Siqueira Filho during the opening of Set Expo, in São Paulo, on Tuesday (19.ago.2025).
“From the public point of view, it is the guarantee that the open TV will follow free, universal and with 8K image, immersive audio, expanded accessibility and real interactivity. From the point of view of the industry, it is the definitive entry into the digital economy, with modern metrics, segmented advertising, innovative business models and greater competitive balance with global platforms ”he declared.
There are still some doubts about implementation, especially regarding improvements, the need for internet connection and, above all, if you will need to change the device.
CONVERTER
According to the ministry, it will be necessary to purchase a converter. The device will have a technology Calling Multiple-Input Multiple-Output, which uses more than one antenna to transmit and to receive wireless communication signals.
The first estimates indicate that converters will cost about $ 400. But the ministry says the evaluation is premature. The values must fall progressively with the evolution of the market and the increased scale of production.
It is expected that soon the televisions will already leave the factory with the technology.
INTERNET
You will not need to have internet to access TV 3.0. Without connection, televisions will display only the contents already released by open and free channels.
However, the internet will offer more content options, such as the possibility of interactivity with products distributed on open TV.
Enhancement
In addition to the greater interactivity with the internet, TV 3.0 will bring other benefits, especially in image and sound quality.
In the new standard, there will be a change in Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1.080 pixels) to 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixels) or up to 8k (7,680 x 4,320 pixels) on compatible devices.
DTV+ promises experience of “like those cinema”Similar to an immersion with audios reproduced in different directions.
Remote control
According to the ministry, the exchange of stations numerically will be replaced. In the new models, the channels will be accessed through applications from content stations, similar to the buttons that give access to the platforms streaming.
Some current television models are already produced without a numerical keyboard on the remote control, although they keep channel change buttons.
