The president (PT) read, during the one he held on Tuesday (26), a letter of 1950 of the former president of the Republic and traced a parallel between the two moments of the country’s history.
In the June 1950 letter, registered by the newspaper Folha da Noite, Vargas said he had confidence in the people and certainty that he would be elected.
After reading the text, Lula made a parallel of the current moment with that of 75 years ago and said that Brazil lived a similar period. In making this comparison, the president cited as an example the support of the US government to oppose in Brazil, alluding to the role played by the pockets for the application of economic sanctions.
The president nominally cited the federal deputy Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL-SP) for the articulation he has done to us in favor of the tariff.
“They, international groups, will not attack me head on, because they do not risk injuring the feelings of honor and civility of our people,” says Vargas’s original letter. “They will use another, more effective tactic. They will unite with disgusting ones from within, the eternal enemies of the humble people, who do not want the valorization of salaried man, nor the labor laws, even less the legislation on extraordinary profits.”
Vargas’s text also said: “I know my people and I have confidence in him. I am sure I will be elected, but I also know that for the second time I will not come to the end of my government. I will have to fight. How far will I resist?
In his speech, the petista said he lives his best moment and that he will not be a candidate only in the 2026 elections for health reasons.
Nasos three largest parties tried to sew agreements for a single presidential candidacy. In February 1949, Getúlio announced Samuel Wainer, reporter for “The Journal”, by Assis Chateaubriand, who would return “not as a political leader but as mass leader.” He had been deposed in 1945.
Lula often cites Getúlio in his speeches, since his first terms. The petista has even said that, in terms of political experience, he only lost to him and Dom Pedro 2nd. From the country, he made indirect quotes to lets also used in letters by the former president, as well as using a tone close to that used by the gaucho in his public demonstrations.
