Candidate for president of Corinthians in 2007, Osmar Stabile had 14 votes. Eighteen years later, he reached the position he aimed at an unpredictable sequence of events.

The businessman in the metallurgical sector, now a 71-year-old man, won the indirect election held at Parque São Jorge on Monday night (25). It had 199 votes, against 50 by Antonio Roque Citadini and 14 from André Castro.

From the night when he had 4% of the votes valid in the Deliberative Council to which he received 76%, much occurred. In 2007, the election marked the arrival of Andrés Sanchez, whose political group, entitled Renewal and Transparency, would remain in charge of the club until the end of 2023.

It was a dynasty that began with a relegation in the Brazilian Championship and had great achievements before a deep wear, aggravated by bad results on the field and allegations of corruption. In the 2023 election – with the participation of the partners, no longer restricted to counselors – the group was easily overthrown.

While the class of Andrés reigned, Stabile remained a relatively discreet member of the opposition. He was a candidate for president in 2010 and the vice president in 2015 and 2018, on the Citadini plate-the opponent’s opponent last Monday. And he composed, also as deputy, in 2023, the plate that finally defeated renewal and transparency, headed by Augusto Melo.

Osmar, however, never effectively participated in Augusto’s management. He was a decorative deputy or, in his own word, “scanned.” He saw an opportunity to present himself when Melo’s political capital was eroded amid allegations of irregularities in the payment of commissions of the sponsorship contract with the Betting House Vaidebet.

The president became a defendant in court and was dismissed by the council. The partners endorsed the impeachment, which left Stabile again in the face of an indirect election for the presidency of Corinthians. But in a very different position.

In 2007, when Alberto Dualib resigned in the midst of an impeachment process, the Council was divided between supporters of Andrés (175 votes) and Paulo Garcia (158) for the completion of the interrupted mandate. There are 14 for Stabile, ugly duckling at that time.

In 2025, when Augusto Melo fell, there was a gap. To fill it, the current that defended the continuity of Stabile-interim president since the departure of Melo by the board in late May-as a way of giving some stability to a turbulent club.

Augustus’s effort was ineffective to cling to power, ”he literally sought to sit in the presidential chair after the vote. And the renewal and transparent no longer had the same traction, not even in the council.

It is impossible, however, to raise 199 votes – the 264 counselors have undergone 264 – without the support of people who were part of the RT administrations. “I think only I didn’t participate,” Stabile smiled.

The situation generated an embarrassment in the first interview of the businessman as president -elect until December 2026, when the term of Augusto would end. The president of Gavião da Faithful, Alexandre Domênico Pereira, took the word and showed strangeness with an answer in which the leader was open to receive people from previous managements.

“You have our support, yes, but from the moment there are people of renewal and transparency in the administrative part, the protests will not cease. To talk about starting today, president, this political group can no longer manage anything here in Corinthians,” said Alê, as the leader of the largest organized Alvinegra is known.

“Strict stamp will not have in the administration. It can be calm, because it won’t have,” said Stabile, before starting to stutter to explain that plates that have already supported the renewal today support him. “There are people who have gone over there in the past… I can’t say to you… Well, I don’t want to be repetitive, but stamped stickers won’t participate.”

With or without stamped stickers, Osmar has a Herculean task, a debt of over R $ 2.5 billion to manage. Players like Dutch striker Memphis Depay have high overdue values. For default, the club is under a “Transfer Ban”, veto of FIFA (International Football Federation) to hiring.

“We are getting from the largest for the smallest problem. We have already identified many problems! There are several priorities, but when you manage, it takes the biggest difficulty first. The biggest difficulty today is the financial. We are organizing,” he said.

One of the ways considered is to advance revenues with LFU (Liga Forte União), an entity from which the club is associated and negotiates transmission rights. The president also sees the possibility of terminating the “Naming Rights” contract of Itaquera Stadium, currently called Neo Chemistry Arena, and seek a more lucrative deal.

Anyway, Stabile noted, “the degree of difficulty is huge.”

It was what he sought since 2007.
