Startup ecosystem in Santa Catarina matured, indicates survey

The data are from Sebrae Startups Report Santa Catarina 2025, a survey that will be released on the afternoon of Wednesday (27) during the Startup SummitEntrepreneurship event that happens in Florianópolis until Friday (29).

The report also shows the growth of the ecosystem beyond the capital. While Greater Florianópolis concentrates 974 startups, the south of the state recorded 47.2% increase over the previous year and west Santa Catarina noticed a 38.5% increase in the number of startups.

The data also show an important advance in the presence of women in the foundation of startups: female participation jumped from 9% to 25.40% in just one year.

About the business model, B2B accounts for 63.72% and subscription revenue is the predominant format used by 51% of startups. The main product of companies is software development (53%) followed by services (32%). For Fábio Zanuzzi, technical director of Sebrae/SC, recurrence in payments and the focus on technology show that Santa Catarina companies are focused on sustainability and scalability. “When we see that more than half of startups operate with software and subscription monetization, we have a clear sign that we are dealing with ventures that think from the beginning on scalability and financial predictability,” he says.

For Zanuzzi, the general data of the Santa Catarina ecosystem show that local innovation and entrepreneurship support consistent productive chains. “Startup development in all regions of the state is the result of a strategy that combines capillarity with practical orientation. We are not just supporting the founding of new companies, but the creation of structures to keep, grow and be part of the real economy,” he says.

Driven growth

Among the reasons for development is the Startup SC program, which completes 12 years of operation in 41 cities with 540 companies that together total R $ 5.2 billion in market value generated.

Created by Sebrae/SC in 2013, the SC Startup program helped consolidate Santa Catarina as one of the most dynamic poles of innovation in the country. “Over the course of these 12 years, startup SC has established itself as a platform for economic and social transformation. Census data serves as the basis for the evolution of the program and the development of more effective strategies aimed at innovative entrepreneurship,” says Alexandre Souza, Innovation Manager at Sebrae/SC.
