Also at the 82nd year of the oldest film festival in the world is expected to participate in the strong participation of domestic and foreign stars. Oscar Isaac, Emma Stone, Julia Roberts, Kim Novakova and George Clooney will visit Venice.
The festival opens the film by Italian director Paolo Sorrentin called La Grazia, starring again with his court actor Toni Servill. A total of 21 films, including five Italian, are applying for the main prize of the Golden Lion. Among the competition films are also the sci-fi film Frankenstein Mexican director Guillerm Del Toro, comedy Bugonia from Greek director Jorgos Lanthimos, comedy Jay Kelly with actor George Clooney and Father Sister Brother Brother Brother Jim Jarmusch.
The chairman of the jury in the main competition is American director Alexander Payne, known for his films Schmidt’s story (2002), Bokovka (2004) and Nebraska (2013). The Golden Lion will be awarded to German director Werner Herzog and American actress Kim Novaková for the lifelong work this year.
Festival director Alberto Barbera described Herzoga as the main innovator of the new German film, highlighting his directorial works as signs of life (1968), Aguirre, the anger of God (1972), the vampire of Nosferatu (1979), Fitzcarraldo (1982), bad Poliš (2009) and Grizzly Man (2005). Barbera considers him a brilliant narrator of unusual stories and the last heir of a great tradition of German romanticism.
“Kim Novaková was one of the most popular icons of the whole era of Hollywood film, from the hopeful debut in the mid -50s until her early and voluntary departure from the gilded cage of Los Angeles”Barbera explained why they decided to appreciate a woman who, in his opinion, never sold out the system of film studios.
Novakova became famous especially at the end of the 50s and in the 60s. Later she withdrew from Hollywood and devoted herself to fine arts. The viewers’ memory was enrolled thanks to the main double role in the film Vertigo (1958) by British director Alfred Hitchcock.
Slovakia is also represented at the festival. The world premiere will be the film Father by director Tereza Nvotová, who will be presented in the competition section of the horizon. It is dedicated to contemporary film trends and young talents of international cinematography. The film was made in Slovak, Czech and Polish co -production. This is the third feature film Nvotová.
The main tasks were played by Milan Ondrík and Dominika Morávková. In addition, Anna Geislerová, Martina Slumkova, Peter Bebjak, Ingrid Timkova, Peter Ondrejicka and Roman Polák perform in the film.
The first year of the festival took place in 1932. It was opened by the horror movie director Rouben Mamoulian Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. The Venetian Film Festival was born from the original exhibition of fine arts – the Venetian Biennial, whose history dates back to 1895. The official name of the Venetian Film Festival is an international exhibition of film art.
The main prize was introduced only in 1949, under the name of the Golden Lion of Saint Mark. Since 1954 only the label of the Golden Lion has been used. The Venetian Festival is the oldest film event of its kind in the world and, alongside the F, Cannes festival and Berlinale, Germany, is considered one of the three most important. This year’s 82th year will be held on the island of Lido from 27 August to 6 September.
