“We will not allow these lunatics to continue destroying the United States,” said Trump

The US President, said on Wednesday (27) that the liberal billionaire and his son should face criminal accusations for, according to him, funding “violent protests” across the country. Trump did not specify what motivated his attack on Soros, but his message comes at a time when his government conducts several investigations into individuals he considers enemies. “George Soros and his wonderful radical left son should be accused under rich law due to their support for violent protests and more,” Trump wrote on his social truth platform, referring to the law against organized crime created in the 1970s to combat the mafia. Soros “and their group of psychopaths have caused huge damage to our country. This includes their crazy friends from the west coast,” he added.

“We will not allow these lunatics to continue destroying the United States,” said Trump. And he warned, “Be careful, we are looking at you!” The Open Society Foundations, the international network of private foundations created by Soros, rejected Trump’s accusations, calling them “scandalous and false.” “The Open Society Foundations does not support or finance violent protests,” an AFP spokesman said. The foundations support “the rights to freedom of expression and the peaceful protest, which are registered marks of any vibrant democracy,” he added.

The Soros Philanthropist, born in Hungary for 95 years, has been a frequent target of the far right in Europe and the United States for its financial support for progressive causes. Longtime conspiracy theories involving their family resurfaced in June, when street protests broke out in Los Angeles against anti-immigration beats. Trump used the demonstrations as a justification for sending the National Guard and the Marines to the city governed by the Democratic opposition.

Fact -checking teams, including AFP, unmasked false narratives that circulated online at the time, such as photos of brick batteries allegedly placed in a strategic way so that California protesters launched them against the police and cause even more violence. According to these publications, the photos proved that the demonstrations were promoted by non -profit organizations supported by Soros.

The philanthropist also faces unfounded accusations of feeding the migratory crisis in Europe and the southern border of the United States, as well as orchestrating massive protests against police brutality in the country following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. Soros announced in 2023 that he would deliver control of his philanthropic empire to his son Alexander.

Former Democratic President Joe Biden granted Soros the presidential freedom medal in January for his support for “organizations and projects around the world that strengthen democracy, human rights, education and social justice.”
